EventR vs Eventbrite — Ticketing Is Not Event Management

Eventbrite is one of the most recognizable names in the events industry, and it’s earned that recognition. The platform has been helping organizers create, promote, and sell tickets since 2006, and today it reaches over 89 million monthly users through its consumer marketplace. If you want to sell tickets to a community event, a concert, a workshop, or a social gathering, Eventbrite is fast to set up, trusted by attendees, and good at driving discovery. For free events, it costs nothing. For paid events, it charges a service fee of 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket plus a 2.9% payment processing fee per order, so roughly 10% on a $50 ticket.

But Eventbrite ends at the ticket sale. Everything that happens after: the team coordination, the travel logistics, the venue operations, the staff communication and the cost tracking, that’s not Eventbrite’s problem. And for anyone running a complex event, that gap is enormous.

What Eventbrite does well

Eventbrite’s marketplace is its biggest asset. With 89 million monthly users, your event gets organic discovery that you’d have to work hard to replicate on your own. The platform’s consumer-facing search and recommendation engine means people actively browsing for things to do can find your event without you spending a penny on advertising. Some organizers report that 20-30% of their ticket sales come through Eventbrite’s organic discovery alone.

The ticketing tools are solid. Multiple ticket types, early bird pricing, VIP tiers, promo codes, group discounts, waitlists, and a clean checkout experience. The Eventbrite Organizer app handles mobile check-in and on-site badge scanning. Email campaigns, social media integrations, and Eventbrite Ads give you marketing tools without leaving the platform. For straightforward ticketed events, it’s a complete package.

The pricing model is also accessible. Publishing events is free. Free events have zero fees. Paid events use a per-ticket fee structure, meaning you only pay when you sell. The optional Pro plan ($15–$100/month depending on email volume) adds advanced email marketing capabilities. For occasional event organizers who don’t need a monthly subscription, the pay-as-you-sell model is appealing.

Where Eventbrite ends

The moment your event requires operational coordination beyond ticket sales, Eventbrite’s limitations become clear. There’s no way to coordinate your crew’s travel and accommodation inside the platform. There’s no live flight tracking for incoming talent or staff. There’s no interactive venue map showing where your team is during the event. There’s no rooming list management. There’s no in-app team chat. There’s no expense tracking against a budget. There’s no staff itinerary system that lives alongside the public attendee guide. And there’s no multi-team support for running parallel operational teams within a single event.

Eventbrite was designed for the ticket buyer’s journey. From discovery to purchase to check-in, it’s excellent. But the event organizer’s journey, the weeks of coordination before the event, the real-time management during it, the expense reconciliation after, that’s not what Eventbrite was built for. You’ll be running that side of the operation in a separate set of tools that don’t connect to your Eventbrite data.

It’s also worth noting that Eventbrite’s fee structure has changed 11 times since 2007, and the platform was acquired by Italian tech company Bending Spoons in March 2026. New ownership has signaled staff reductions and a potential shift toward a secondary ticketing market. For organizers building long-term event programs, the platform’s direction is worth watching.

What EventR does instead

EventR is the operational layer that runs behind your event, managing the things that have to go right for the event to feel effortless to attendees. Flights are tracked live, with status, gate, and terminal information updating automatically. Hotel booking is inside the app. The map shows team member locations in real time alongside activity markers. Chat channels are auto-created per activity. Expenses track across currencies with cost centre assignment, ISO merchant codes, and CO2 tracking. Rooming lists generate supplier-ready PDFs. The AI Inbox turns forwarded booking emails into itinerary entries. Public itineraries give attendees a clean, read-only view of their schedule. And the multi-team architecture means you can run parallel teams, each with their own manager and their own view, all within a single event.

If you’re running a public event and need ticket sales and discovery, Eventbrite is a strong choice for that specific job. But once the tickets are sold, the real work begins — and that’s where EventR takes over. Free to try for small teams, no per-ticket fees, no sales call required.

Use Eventbrite to sell tickets. Use EventR to run the event.
